  • The Red Riding Hood

This is a world-famous fairy tale; everyone should have seen it when they were child. I had seen this story of course, but I want to see some difference. Since all books on the book list may be different from those common books, I thought this book on the book list might be different or somewhat. Therefore, I was full of anticipation before I read this book.
The all story plot is almost as same as the original story. The Red Riding Hood wanted to visit her sick grandmother, and she bumped into an evil wolf at the road. The wolf wanted to eat her and her grandmother, so he went to the grandmother’s house earlier than the Red Riding Hood. However, in this part, the wolf did not eat the grandmother, she hided. Then the wolf dressed himself as grandmother, waiting the Red Riding Hood came. Finally, she came to the grandmother’s house, and she went into it immediately. She did not notice the grandmother was a wolf, so the wolf tried to eat her when she came close to him. The final part unlike the original story as well, the Red Riding Hood ran out from the house, and the wolf chased her. Then the Red Riding Hood bumped into her father, he killed the wolf immediately. Finally, they went back to the grandmother’s house to find grandma, then they find her, and it is a happy ending. It is not quite different from the original story, I feel disappointed. However, I am kind of like this book for few reasons. First, it changed some stupid plot from the original story, for example, it do not show us the final part that hunter cut through the wolf’s stomach to save the grandma and the Red Riding Hood. That is insane. Second, I love the pictures of this book; it reminds me of the Impressionism, one of my favorite styles. Third, its vocabulary is very simple to read. If the word of a book is too difficult, I would definitely not read it. To conclude, I like this book, but I think it should be doing some innovation.

  • Dog's Night

I chose this book for a mistake. When I browsed at the book list, trying to find an interesting book, I was attracted by a tittle of a book, “Dog Knight”. I made up my mind to borrow it immediately, I thought it would be a funny or odd story about a dog knight, it would be hilarious. However, the name of book on that book list is wrong, the K is surplus. So the real name of this book is “Dog’s Night”. Nevertheless, this book is still quite a good story.
The main plot of these book is about all dogs in every picture of a museum would run out from their picture in an annual night. All of them would go back to their picture at midnight. But at one night, four dogs went back to the wrong picture. Everybody was stunning by it, but it instead brought a lot of visitors to the museum, sounds like the ending of a movie, “Night at the Museum”. But the ending of this book is different from the movie; those dogs went back to the picture they belong after the next Dog Night. The plot is cute, but I love those pictures in this book more. They are all famous paintings around the word. These paintings remind me some childhood memories, which I was in the art class at school or watching some cartoons. Art teachers always introduced these pictures to us, and I had seen a lot of cartoons appeared this famous paintings. I was so fascinated by the mysteries of these artworks at that time.

  • Shrek

I am always attracted by those tittles of books which I am familiar with. Therefore, I borrow “Shrek’’, this book. Certainly, everyone knows Shrek since its movie, it has four episodes. I actually thought Shrek was an original story at first, because it is a parody film, which targeting other films adapted from numerous children’s fantasies. However, it is also based on a fairy tale. I want to read this original version of movie; I could be more realized about it.
The plot of this book is quite similar with movie, but only the half part. It is a quite weird story; it does not like a fairy tale at all. Its vocabulary, character, and ending are quite different from normal fairy tale. The vocabularies, they are very difficult to read by me. The main character, Shrek and the prince are terrible monster. The ending, it is just Shrek and prince get married, and live a horrible life. It is unusual! Although the adaption movie is quite a strange fairy tale, the original story is more even. I think the writer of this book tried to satirize something, but I cannot figure out what exactly he satirized. He wrote a crazy story and created some crazy character, I think he tried to write a black comedy or something. Since he wrote it in the late 80’s, it was not conservative time likes before, so I think it may just a black comedy in fairy tale.

  • The Owl and the Pussycat

When I first discovered the tittle of this book, “The Owl and the Pussycat’’, I thought it would be some adorable, cute fairy tale. Because I am a cat lover, I was attracted by its tittle, so I borrow it. However, this book is not a childish, adorable fairy tale which I thought at first.
First, we talk about its plot. It is the adorable part of this book; the plot is very innocent, and childish. It is all about a normal, clichéd, and little boring romance between a male owl and a female cat. The owl constantly flirted with the cat, when they were sailing on the sea. Then, they bumped into a pig; the pig gave them a ring. Finally, they married…. The plot is completely for children. The reason for this book is not a childish fairy tale which is its picture. The picture is so realistic, and amazing. Everything is so real, which made me feel I was reading an album. The cover showed me that at first. The two main characters are completely real animals which wear some clothes. The view of the sea, it is the most astonishing part. It specifically portrays everything in the sea by its picture. There are various fish, plant, shell, even the sea wave! Reading this book likes diving at Great Barrier Reef. By the way, I have never seen a realistic pig in fairy tale, but it has, it astonished me as well!

  • The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

This is an incredible story. At first, I thought it is just a boring, childish fairy tale. But after I had finished reading this original version of fairy tale, I completely change my thought. It is so amazing, fantastic, creative, and warming. I first read this tale when I was in kindergarten, at that time, I thought it was an odd and boring story. However, I watched the 1939 adaption movie “The Wizard of OZ” last year; it is a wonderful movie, I love it very much. From then on, I began to interest in this tale, so I borrow this original version.
At the first chapter, it did not describe Dorothy’s family very much, if you compare to the movie; they did not even speak a word. But after that, it described everything specifically; it makes me feel like reading “The Lord of the Ring”. It is quite adorable at some part, for example: The compadres always said what they want in the all story; it sounds stupid, but when they said that, you would think it is very cute. The all story have a lot of new and odd creature or place. It makes me feel I am in a fantasy adventure, those interesting stuff attract me to this fantasyland. However, the most fascinating part to me is its simple. Their simple thought, dialogue, and heart take me to the old time. Those happy memories, and those innocent people, are all great old time. What a masterpiece.

  • Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree

When I was a kid, I had seen a lot of Winne-the-Pooh cartoons. At that time, I have no idea that cute bear was based on the classic children’s literature. It really amazes me since I think this story is not so meaningful that could not be based on a literature. Therefore, I borrow Winnie-the-Pooh and the Honey Tree this picture book, I want to find out why this story can be classic.
At first, I was attracted by its picture. Its picture are so simple, but cute. I think it is some kind of impressionism, I guess. By the way, there some different image design between cartoon and this book, likes Winnie does not wear anything, and one of the main character, Christopher Robin is way different from cartoon, it looks like little girl in this book. However, this picture would bother me reading at all; on the contrary, it gives me some pleasure to read this book, it makes it interesting.
